PalmThe reggaeton artist Bad Bunny's Super Bowl performance, which infuriated US President Donald Trump, has also made its presence felt in the Balearic Parliament. "Long live Bad Bunny!" exclaimed the head of the regional government, Marga Prohens, during the government's question time. But, pressed by the Socialist Party (PSIB) for her opposition to the regularization of immigrants proposed by Pedro Sánchez, she added: "Long live the people who come here to integrate and respect our laws." All this while warning that "residency is not given away."

Prohens accused the PSIB of "governing against the people here" and not "fighting the mafias." "They are brave enough to attack Catholic symbols, but cowardly enough to ban the burka," she retorted. She also accused Unidas Podemos of promoting the extraordinary regularization process from the Spanish government to "replace" Spanish citizens "who no longer vote for them, whom they can no longer deceive." "It's undemocratic," she reproached the Unidas Podemos deputy, José María García, who criticized the PP's anti-immigration rhetoric. The spokesperson for the PSIB parliamentary group, Iago Negueruela, asked Prohens if she had seen Bad Bunny's performance, in which he championed Latin America in the context of repression against immigrants in the United States. "I imagine you saw the flags all over the San Francisco stadium," he said. "They're the same ones that are here; more than 250,000 people represent them, they live here, they work here, and they have rights." For this reason, he said, this regularization is necessary.

"Legal and orderly immigration"

Prohens insisted that the government will oppose this measure "with all available resources," emphasizing that legal residency "must be earned." Therefore, she stated that immigration must be "legal and proper, with a pre-existing employment contract and no criminal record, respecting the law and demonstrating a willingness to integrate and respect values such as the dignity of women."

For his part, García reminded Prohens that migrants have "rights." "Rights and duties," the Popular Party representative responded. The parliamentarian recalled that extraordinary regularizations had already been carried out in the past and "there was no pull factor" like the one the PP is predicting.
