The Mallorca Territorial Defense Agency demolishes several animal buildings on a rural property due to lack of license
The facilities occupied a large part of the land and had been built without municipal permission.
PalmThe Mallorca Territorial Defense Agency has demolished several buildings, installations, and paving erected on a rural property and intended as an animal shelter, after confirming that they lacked any municipal building permits. According to the Agency, these structures occupied a significant portion of the land and had not obtained any authorization for their construction. Following the appropriate procedures, the structures were demolished, and the land has been restored to its previous natural state. According to current urban planning regulations, any building or installation intended to house animals requires prior municipal authorization. The Agency reminds the public that, although some owners attempt to justify these types of constructions as "houses" or for other uses, these spaces are also subject to licensing, especially when located on rural land.
This case comes at a time when urban planning authorities are insisting that the legalization of illegal construction on rural land is limited and that only those actions compatible with the planning regulations and carried out outside the periods in which the infraction has not yet expired can be regularized, as established by the regulations detailed in reference documents.
These actions are not exceptional: in recent years there have been exemplary sanctions for illegal constructions. For example, the most recent high-profile case took place in Marratxí, where a mansion of approximately 1,200 square meters—built on rural land without a permit—received a fine of 1.4 million euros, the highest ever imposed in Mallorca for an urban planning infraction.
The Agency points out that it is important to remember that buildings intended as animal shelters are also subject to urban planning controls and must comply with municipal regulations, which is why actions like this are taken when the lack of a permit is proven.
