Felanitx is full due to the fight between the mayor of Felanitx and a police officer.

Soler and the officer denounce each other and the case is handed over to the Civil Guard because the municipal body cannot investigate it.

PalmThe extraordinary plenary session held this Thursday at Felanitx Town Hall once again brought the mayor, Catalina Soler, face to face with the controversy surrounding the incidents that occurred on the night of July 12th at the Uva Wine Fest in Portocolom with a local police officer. Soler denied having threatened or insulted him, but admitted that she reproached him for not having seen him patrolling despite being responsible for security.

The municipal Socialist group, for its part, considered that the mayor's explanations corroborate the threats and coercion reported by the officer, who was allegedly the victim of "abuse," and demanded his resignation.

The mayor has consistently denied that she was drunk or that she insulted the officer who filed a report against her. She did admit that she reproached him for not having seen her all night despite him being responsible for security at the party.

It was after this exchange of views that, according to Soler, the officer made a "sexist" comment to her. The municipal official emphasized that he said this while in uniform and in the course of his duties, and not in plain clothes.

In her opinion, the report submitted by the officer only tells part of what happened, not the final story, which has led the Councilor for Equality to announce that the internal committee of civil servants would be convened to clarify the terms of this alleged comment.

The Socialists demand Soler's resignation.

At the end of the extraordinary plenary session, the spokesperson for the Socialist group, María Gracia González, considered that Soler's explanations confirmed that the events described in the report actually occurred. Specifically, the councilor referred to the "threats and coercion" the officer said he had received, which would constitute an episode of "abuse" toward the civil servant.

In her opinion, "it is very serious" that the mayor was involved in an episode of harassment of a municipal employee who is a police officer, whose actions in the line of duty "are always assumed to be true and are protected by law." She stated that "Soler has blamed everyone for the events except herself."

Sexist comments

Regarding the alleged sexist comments the mayor claims to have been the victim of, González asserted that if they were true, they would be equally serious and would merit condemnation from her party. They would also entail the obligation for "this person to no longer wear a Local Police uniform," she added.

After the plenary session, the Socialist spokesperson cast doubt on whether this incident actually happened and speculated that it could be "a defense strategy to contradict the report accusing her."

"This is the first time I've heard these statements from Soler, and I cannot condemn anything that is not clear to have happened, giving credence to a comment by the mayor, who is only seeking to excuse herself from facts that have been verified by an official report and that she herself has not been able to deny," she maintained.

For all these reasons, as they did shortly after the report was leaked to the media, the Socialist municipal group has demanded Soler's resignation, having already announced at the time that it was a possibility he hadn't anticipated.

Beyond the content of Soler's appearance—which was requested by opposition groups—González criticized him for his "defiant and unpleasant attitude, raising his voice on numerous occasions, disqualifying and insulting members of the opposition."

Cross-accusations

After Soler announced her intention to take these events to court, municipal sources consulted by Europa Press confirmed that the case is in the hands of a court in Manacor.

The officer filed a complaint against Soler and submitted the report in which he sets out his version of what happened to the judge.

According to the aforementioned sources, the events are being investigated by the Civil Guard, as it is impossible for the Local Police to do so, given the involvement of an officer.

The Socialists have warned that Soler is considering having the Felanitx City Council also appear in the legal proceedings. This, for the Socialist, would mean "a total confusion between her personal interests and those of the institution she represents on behalf of the citizens."
