IB3 does not require a Journalism degree or knowledge of Catalan for the next deputy director of news
MORE for Mallorca registers parliamentary questions demanding explanations from the Government
PalmaAmong the requirements for the position of deputy director of news at the Public Entity of Radio and Television of the Balearic Islands (EPRTVIB) there is no specific degree in Journalism, nor is it necessary to prove knowledge of Catalan. This is evident from the Official Gazette of the Balearic Islands (BOIB) which details the bases of the call, as denounced by the leader of MÉS per Mallorca, Lluís Apesteguia, at a press conference. "We could have a deputy director of news who does not understand them," he lamented. The eco-sovereignists have submitted several parliamentary questions asking the Government for explanations in this regard.
Among the requirements that are requested in the call are having Spanish nationality, being of legal age, not being subject to a disciplinary proceeding in public administration or being disqualified, as well as being in possession of a university degree, be it a bachelor's degree or a master's degree. Otherwise, it is explained that the selection jury will value during the personal interview being in possession of bachelor's, master's degrees and official master's degrees "related to the functions of the position", in addition to having completed training or improvement courses given by official bodies "related to the functions of the position", having "knowledge of the Catalan language" and having "professional experience in other public regional or similar radio and television operators".
In the battery of questions they have registered, the eco-sovereignists demand to know "according to what regulations this position is exempted from the requirement" of Catalan, even though it is a position of free designation, and for what reason a degree in Journalism is not specifically requested. "Does the general director of IB3 consider that it should not be guaranteed that the deputy director of news knows the language in which the news is broadcast? If he doesn't understand them, will they be subtitled, dubbed or translated?", they demand in the writing.
