MÉS accuses Galmés of covering up Bestard and demands explanations for vehicle rentals charged to the Council

PalmaMÉS per Mallorca has accused the president of the Consell de Mallorca, Llorenç Galmés, of covering up the vice president of the institution, Pedro Bestard, in light of new information about expenses for vehicle rentals during official trips. The party considers it an "unjustifiable" use of public resources.

In a statement, the eco-sovereignists have assured that the new data reinforce a "pattern of behavior incompatible with the principles of austerity, transparency, and exemplary conduct" that, in their opinion, should govern any public administration.

It has recently come to light that Bestard charged the Council a total of 979.16 euros for vehicle rentals during five official trips made between 2023 and 2025.

For MÉS, these expenses are added to the irregularities already recorded in internal reports on the exclusive use of official vehicles, trips without sufficient justification, and other episodes related to the management of public resources.

The spokesperson for MÉS in the Council, Catalina Inés Perelló, stated that the issue is not just the amount of the expense, but the fact that vehicle rentals "do not correspond to the ordinary functioning of institutional travel." According to the party, on this type of trip, it is common to use public transport or taxi services for occasional travel.

"Bestard's rental cars seem more appropriate for a tourist than for a vice president," said Perelló, who demanded that the leader explain why he repeatedly opted for this method, which trips he made, what institutional justification each rental had, and why alternatives more in line with responsible use of public resources were not used.

The eco-sovereignist spokesperson maintained that each new piece of information confirms that this is not an isolated incident, but a way of understanding the management of public resources "completely removed from the criteria of austerity and responsibility that citizens expect from their representatives".

Perelló also criticized the president of the Council, Llorenç Galmés, whom she accused of "politically protecting" Bestard. In this regard, she recalled that the vice president has known the internal reports for weeks and, despite this, has not yet appeared, nor has the extraordinary plenary session requested by the opposition groups been convened.

"One who is convinced that everything has been done correctly does not avoid public debate, appears, gives explanations, and assumes responsibilities. Galmés is doing exactly the opposite," she concluded.

Finally, MÉS per Mallorca reiterated the request to immediately convene the extraordinary plenary session demanded by the opposition so that Pedro Bestard can give detailed explanations about all expenses related to his trips and urged Galmés to stop acting, according to the party, "as the political protector of the Vox vice president".
