Neus Truyol: "The mayor is giving away the equivalent of more than three soccer fields of public land to speculation."

The party has filed objections against the change of use of six municipal plots and demands that they not be converted into housing at impossible prices.

PalmMÁS por Palma has denounced that Mayor Jaime Martínez and the Popular Party, with the active support of Vox, are carrying out "a covert transfer of public assets to the real estate industry." According to eco-sovereignty spokesperson Neus Truyol, the municipal government is reclassifying several plots of land that the General Plan, approved in 2023, had reserved for schools, sports, and cultural facilities, with the intention of leasing them for 75 years to private companies to build housing.

The affected land totals more than 24,000 square meters—an area equivalent to three and a half football fields—and is spread across Son Quint, El Olivo, Coll d'en Rebassa, Son Güells (where two of the plots are located), and Son Peretó. In all cases, MÁS has filed objections to prevent the change of use.

In Son Quint, public facilities were planned; in El Olivo, a neighborhood sports center; in Coll d'en Rebassa, a green space and community facilities; in Son Güells, a sociocultural center and sports facilities; and in Son Peretó, a public school. Truyol warned that "these plots belong to the neighborhood, not the mayor. He's giving them away to real estate developers and condemning people to more expensive apartments without nearby services."

Son Peretó, an exception

According to MÁS, citizen mobilization and the party's allegations have forced the City Council to withdraw the change of use of the Son Peretó site, intended for the expansion of the Son Serra Primary School. However, Truyol warned that the land is still listed as residential in the Official Gazette and demanded that "they ensure that Martínez keeps his word."

The spokesperson demanded that the mayor do the same with the rest of the affected sites: "If he wanted to, he could save Son Quint, Son Güells, El Olivo, and Coll d'en Rebassa. We reject Palma as a business. It must be a livable city, with services and a future."
