From a gold bracelet to ballet slippers: the wave of thefts alarming the Conservatory of Mallorca
The center reports the disappearance of dozens of items of clothing, jewelry, and utensils of all kinds and is reinforcing its security measures.
PalmHe Professional Conservatory of Music and Dance of Mallorca The school has detected several thefts of equipment and personal belongings among dance students. According to an email sent to families, students, and teachers by the head of studies, 57 items have gone missing in recent weeks. These include clothing items such as flamenco and ballet skirts, rehearsal pants, and leotards, as well as pointe shoes from specialized brands. All of these items are high-value: a flamenco skirt and a pair of pointe shoes can easily cost more than €100 each. The list of stolen items also includes personal belongings such as gold and silver necklaces, Pandora and Tous bracelets, rings, toiletry bags, a designer jacket, and jeans. There are even items of no value, such as a hairbrush and a uniform skirt. The message specifies that the disappearances have occurred both in classrooms and changing rooms, spaces used daily by students, and that it was the students themselves who brought the matter to the attention of the administration. The list of missing equipment includes dozens of items, some of which are essential for dance practice, such as pointe shoes, protective gear, and specific clothing items, hindering the normal flow of classes.
Increased surveillance
Given this situation, the center has asked students to take extra precautions and store all belongings in lockers whenever possible. It also recommends carrying materials in sealed bags and avoiding bringing valuables to the Conservatory, especially items that cannot be used during classes. The email reminds students that these items are often left behind in changing rooms or classrooms, making them more susceptible to theft.
Furthermore, the Conservatory's management has emphasized the protocol to follow in case of finding lost items. The center indicates that any belongings should be left in the lost and found area located next to one of the dance classrooms, while valuables, such as mobile phones or jewelry, should be given directly to the head of studies to be kept safe until the owner claims them. It is also recommended to label items with the owner's name to facilitate identification.
The head of studies also issues a clear warning: taking items that do not belong to you can constitute a serious offense under the center's disciplinary code. In this regard, he requests the cooperation of both students and teachers to maintain an atmosphere of respect and harmonious coexistence.
The situation has generated concern among families, since much of the stolen equipment (especially pointe shoes or certain technical pieces) is expensive and requires constant replacement in a particularly demanding discipline. At this time, the school has not reported any identification of those responsible or any additional measures beyond the recommendations already given to the school community.
