PalmThe association Right of Way They have called a rally in Selva this Saturday, March 28th at 12:00 pm to demand free and respectful access to the Tramuntana mountain range, in response to the measures included in the new landscape protection law that particularly affect mountain biking (MTB), hiking and climbing.

The founders of the recently created organization believe that the Serra de Tramuntana is neither a static landscape nor a mere showcase: "It is a territory that has been inhabited and worked for centuries by charcoal burners, stonemasons, shepherds, farmers, and other groups who built a cultural landscape recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2011." Therefore, they have launched a campaign to gather comments through a manifesto that emphasizes that sports and recreational groups are part of this living history and can be allies, not enemies, of the territory's conservation.

Call for the protest this Saturday.

The new law, according to sources at Derecho de Pas, "generally restricts access to private properties and the practice of certain activities, without identifying specific areas where there is a real risk to heritage." This, the association argues, would create practical difficulties for those who respectfully and responsibly explore ancient paths, riverbanks, springs, and other cultural features of the Serra de Tramuntana.

Participants are demanding that restrictions be based on specific impact studies for each path or area, that signage and user training be reinforced, and that a genuine space for dialogue be guaranteed between landowners, farmers, athletes, residents, and local professionals. They are also calling for the recognition of local access customs as intangible heritage of Mallorca.

"The best protection for a living landscape is to keep it alive," the organizers point out, asking that the law not exclude, but rather open paths and enable coexistence between heritage protection and public use. The gathering is open to all citizens and aims to highlight the importance of preserving the Serra de Tramuntana as a collective space, accessible and respected by all.
