Irish tourist dies in Ibiza after falling from a cliff

PalmA man of Irish nationality and about 40 years old died this Monday after falling off a cliff in the municipality of Sant Joan, in Ibiza.

According to the Sant Joan de Labritja City Council, the alert was received around 5:30 p.m., when a woman called the 112 emergency service to report that she had found a friend of hers in a cliff area near es Caló de s’Illa.

Civil Protection personnel and 061 health personnel, who were the first to arrive, moved to the scene. Subsequently, ground and air units of the Civil Guard, Firefighters, health services, and the Local Police of Sant Joan de Labritja were also mobilized.

According to the town council, a Local Police commander also went to the area despite being off duty and there being no operational patrol at that time.

Once at the scene, a firefighter descended to the point where the man was to assess the situation, at which point his death was confirmed.

The body recovery operations lasted until 8:20 p.m. and were carried out using air resources and firefighters.
