PalmAugust will begin this Friday with mild temperatures, similar to those of last week, after a July marked by abundant rainfall, according to the forecast from the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet).

On Friday, the sky will be partly cloudy to clear, and the temperature will remain unchanged. The wind will blow lightly and there will be coastal breezes. The minimum temperature will be around 19°C and the maximum will range between 28°C and 31°C. No rain or storms are expected.

On Saturday, there will be daytime clouds. Isolated showers could occur in inland Mallorca starting in the evening. Temperatures will remain similar, and the wind will remain light, with coastal breezes.

Thermal respite

Starting Sunday, however, a nationwide heat wave is expected to affect large areas of the Iberian Peninsula, especially the southwestern and central quadrants. The episode, which could last until Tuesday, August 5, is not expected to have such a severe impact on the islands, although the thermal lull of recent days will end with the arrival of August.

Until July 23, with a few exceptions, temperatures have been normal for the season. The drop in temperature over the last week was caused by the arrival of a cold front that, upon colliding with the warm air mass over the Mediterranean, generated a drop in temperature, precipitation, and winds, particularly strong in Menorca.

It's worth remembering that in mid-July, the Aemet (Mexico City Meteorological Agency) issued a yellow warning for high temperatures, and in June, the thermometer exceeded 38°C during another heat wave. The agency's forecast is for this to be an especially hot summer, with more heat waves, tropical nights, and prolonged periods of high temperatures. The highest temperature so far this summer It was recorded on Wednesday the 23rd at the UIB observatory, where the mercury reached 38.2 degrees.

During the 93 days of summer—which began on June 21st at 4:42 a.m.—the average temperature is expected to exceed 24°C. The most intense period, with more heat waves and tropical nights, will be between July and August.
