Binissalem gave the green light to the second phase of the industrial estate at the plenary session held this Wednesday at 8:30 a.m., amid strong protests from farmers and residents. "It will have a brutal impact," denounced Andreu Delacio, one of the residents affected by the estate's expansion. The initiative was approved with the support of the governing team, formed by Unió por Binissalem and the PSOE (Spanish Socialist Workers' Party), the abstention of the PP, and the dissent of MÁS for Binissalem. A 30-day period will now open for submission of objections, and the initiative must then be submitted to the Island Territorial Commission.

As explained to ARA Baleares by the Binissalem City Council's Urban Planning Councilor, Josep Maria Pons, the industrial estate will have 53,000 square meters of industrial warehouses, 7,000 square meters of facilities for the City Council where a green point will be established, and 10,000 square meters for the island institution. Regarding the industrial warehouses, Pons assured that "firm commitments have already been made with companies to occupy 20,000 square meters." On the other hand, on the land belonging to the municipal institution, "it is not yet known what will be done," as Pons confirmed.

Regarding the residence that the Binissalem City Council intends to build, Pons points out that the island institution is trying to purchase a plot of land that "is next to the industrial estate" in order to do so.

Delacio criticizes the City Council for having to resort to the transparency portal to get an answer to his questions about the project. "If I asked for information, they sent me a link with a photograph of Mallorca," he complains. Meanwhile, the president of the Group of Friends in Defense of the Environment (GADMA), Bernat Fiol, believes that the island's governing team "doesn't look out for the well-being of the town and doesn't work for Binissalem."

Magdalena Pons, a member of MÉS for Binissalem, claims that the initial approval of the second phase "was done very secretively." "Last week they called an information committee to which nothing was explained, and they also scheduled the plenary session at 8:30 in the morning so that those of us who are in the opposition and work couldn't attend," he laments. He also criticizes the governing team for saying that this initiative "wasn't in their electoral manifesto."
