The Minister of Tourism, on the request for a meeting by GOB and Terraferida with Prohens: "Schedules are complicated"

PalmaThe Minister of Tourism, Jaume Bauzà, referred this Wednesday to the complaint from GOB and Terraferida, who requested a meeting with the President of the Government, Marga Prohens, on July 27 and have not yet received any response. "Agendas are complicated," he pointed out at an event at the Can Sales library, in addition to stating that the entities will be attended to at some point, as reported by Europa Press.

Bauzà defended the Executive's "tourist containment" policy and assured that he has "total respect for the demands of GOB and Terraferida." "What happens is that we, from the first day we entered the Government, already knew what the problem was and we started to take measures," he continued. The minister stressed that the Department has taken initiatives in tourism matters and highlighted the fight against illegal supply and the prohibition of new tourist places in apartments, without reducing those that currently exist. "The work we have done is the containment of the legal supply and the energetic fight with many resources against the illegal tourist supply," he insisted.

Regarding the reduction of places demanded by the entities, he indicated that it would imply "revoking rights" from people who have tourist places and paying compensation. "Canceling places would imply astronomical patrimonial responsibility for the Autonomous Community, which our way of governing does not allow us," he ruled.

The GOB and Terraferida have made public the concrete measures they are requesting after 70,000 people called for limits on touristification at the demonstration on July 26 and have regretted that they have received "no response" from Prohens – they have also requested a meeting with Llorenç Galmés. "We will not stop. We have just begun," Antonina Siquier, from the GOB, stated on Tuesday, also remarking that Prohens and Galmés are "the only two people who can take measures against overmassification".

The two entities demand an end to tourist rentals and the recovery of housing for affordable residential use; an end to the urbanization of rustic land and a moratorium on the construction of new swimming pools; an end to policies of territorial desprotection; a maximum limit on vehicles that can circulate in Mallorca and the promotion of public transport; and that climate security be guaranteed.
