Catalina Soler denies having received any fine for disrespecting the Civil Guard
The mayor of Felanitx (PP) was reportedly disciplined for, according to a report from the same force, having said things like: “You’re not doing your job properly,” “This land doesn’t demand much,” or “She doesn’t deserve to wear this uniform,” to four officers when she was stopped for speeding a year ago in Campos.
Felanitx"I received a traffic fine, just like 200,000 other people might," replies Catalina Soler, the mayor of Felanitx, when asked about the €100 fine she allegedly received from the Civil Guard last May for supposedly disrespecting officers. "What I've received doesn't match what's been reported, neither in the amount nor the details, so I've already put it in the hands of my lawyer."
"I'm being accused of a crime I'm still unaware of... it seems they haven't learned anything from the Attorney General. It's very curious that Ms. Francina Armengol's current communications advisor is a former employee of Cadena SER," says Soler, consulted today by this media outlet after the SER 2025 event.
The events took place at the roundabout on the road connecting Felanitx with Campos, when two Civil Guard patrols stopped Mayor Catalina Soler because "she was driving at a speed significantly higher than the limit," since only the Civil Guard is allowed on the approach section, as detailed in the file to which ARA Baleares has had access.
According to the Civil Guard, when the four officers proceeded to identify Soler and inform her of the corresponding sanction, "the accused made several disrespectful comments regarding the officers' work, such as: 'You're not doing your job properly,' 'Wearing this uniform,'" in addition to informing them of her position as mayor of Felanitx.
"Absolutely false"
Soler has already filed an initial appeal in which she considers the alleged disrespect towards the officers "absolutely false," stating that "the reported events bear no resemblance to what actually happened." She maintains that she was "respectful, calm, proper, and polite to the officers." "I certainly didn't raise my voice." On the contrary, Soler says she felt intimidated "by an abuse of power on the part of the officers, whose behavior and tone of voice" made her feel uncomfortable at all times. She also explains that she "politely" requested permission to make a phone call for personal reasons, which was denied. On her social media profile, Catalina Soler again attacks the PSOE (Spanish Socialist Workers' Party), accusing them of leaking the news. She also refers to the ongoing conflict with the socialists, which has lasted for over a year, regarding the alleged insults directed at the head of the Felanitx Local Police. modus operandi "And the same common thread," he concludes, pointing to the Balearic PSOE.
