Luis Gordillo and Jorge Carrión inaugurate two new artistic interventions at Coster Art and Nature
The centre of Pollença premieres an immersive installation by the Sevillian painter and a project that transforms the premises into a distributed library within the framework of the PHOF Mallorca PhotoFest.
PalmaThe Coster Art i Natura – Centre d'Investigació i Producció Artística, in Pollença, inaugurates this Friday two new exhibition proposals that reinforce its commitment to contemporary art and the dialogue between creation, nature, and thought. On the one hand, it presents Transmigración de almas, an installation by Luis Gordillo, one of the most influential artists in Spanish contemporary art. On the other hand, the writer and curator Jorge Carrión intervenes in the center with Sistema nervioso (Una biblioteca distribuida), a project that turns the space into an expanded library linked to the landscape.
Both inaugurations are part of the PHOF Mallorca PhotoFest program and will take place this Friday at 7:30 PM at the Coster Art i Natura facilities.
Luis Gordillo transfers his visual universe to Pollença
The main novelty is Transmigration of Souls (2020), a large-format adaptation (print canvas) (284 by 1,182 centimeters) of the project that Luis Gordillo developed for the cultural department of El Corte Inglés for ARCO 2025.
The installation invites the visitor to immerse themselves in a visual universe marked by the superposition of painting, photography, and digital processes, where color, movement, and memory constantly dialogue. Gordillo himself defines the work as "a bomb of color and energy, with considerable movement and temporality" within his artistic career.
Born in Seville in 1934, Luis Gordillo is considered one of the great renovators of contemporary Spanish painting. With over six decades of career, he has exhibited in some of the main museums and art centers in Spain, Germany, France, the United States, Brazil, and Mexico, and has been distinguished with awards such as the National Prize for Plastic Arts, the Velázquez Prize for Plastic Arts, and the Gold Medal for Merit in Fine Arts.
A library that unfolds in the forest
The fifth artistic intervention by Coster Art i Natura is brought to you by the writer Jorge Carrión with Nervous system (A distributed library), a conceptual proposal that poses a new reading of the center from the relationship between books, trees, and landscape.
The project starts from the idea that library and forest share the same logic of interconnection. Based on this metaphor, Carrión proposes to distribute books in various points of the enclosure, so that they dialogue with the works of the artists who are part of the permanent collection.
The intervention is structured around Watchtower, a piece by Amador, which becomes the core of a central library from which the network of scattered readings is organized. According to Carrión, the proposal is inspired by the functioning of forests as complex systems of information exchange between trees, fungi, lichens and other organisms, and transfers this idea to the field of culture.
With this initiative, Coster expands its function as a space dedicated to research and artistic production to also become a place for reading, archiving, and reflection. The project aims to foster a critical look at the relationship between culture and nature, especially in a context marked by the debate on sustainability and the impact of artificial intelligence.
The two proposals consolidate Coster Art i Natura as one of the reference spaces for contemporary creation in Mallorca, combining exhibitions by international figures with projects that explore new ways of understanding territory, art, and knowledge.
