The beach monitoring announced by the Government remains pending

PalmaOne of the latest announcements by the Government to curb overcrowding took place at the International Tourism Fair (Fitur) last January. President Marga Prohens assured that this summer an application would be launched to monitor beach occupancy. The operation consisted of placing sensors in a hundred locations. It is now the end of July and this project has not yet started. Government sources explain that the application is in beta format and undergoing internal testing, and they assure that it will be ready before the season ends.

This tool, linked to the Digital Twin, a data collection infrastructure, was also intended to allow residents and tourists to consult the most crowded spots in real time. Sources from the Ministry of Economy and Finance assure that the initiative will start before the end of summer. However, halfway through the season, no data has yet been collected on this matter. As they explain, the application is in beta format and internal tests are being carried out, finalizing the technical and image/format details of the website.

In the same vein, the Executive also announced the intention to establish smart parking systems, which have also not been installed this summer, although government sources explain that the pilot project was completed and there are already sensors in the Trenc and l'Amarador car parks. The Consell de Mallorca also announced the monitoring of road mobility, but it has not yet been launched. When consulted by ARA Balears, the island's Roads Department has not provided information on when it is expected to start. What has been launched is the possibility for residents with a TIB card to book a spot on various buses heading to the Serra de Tramuntana, a measure that aims to reduce the public transport collapse scenarios affecting the area's residents.
