A family from sa Pobla assures that the former caregiver occupies the grandmother's house: "He asks for thousands of euros"

They ensure that the property is the only home adapted for the elderly woman's daughter, who suffers from a neurodegenerative disease and has not been able to leave home for months.

PalmaA resident of sa Pobla reports that she cannot recover her grandmother's house because, according to her, the man who was the elderly woman's caregiver continues to reside there after her death. The family states that they have initiated legal proceedings to recover the property because they need it for their mother, who has been recognized with a dependency of grade III and suffers from a neurodegenerative disease. "We filed the necessity claim in October 2025 because my mother needs this house and, almost a year later, we still have no response," assures the complainant. The sa Pobla City Council has declined to provide information on this case to ARA Balears, citing the obligation to preserve the confidentiality of individuals served by Social Services.

According to the complainant, her mother is 63 years old, suffers from atypical parkinsonism or multiple system atrophy (MSA) and her health status has worsened significantly in recent months. "She hasn't left the house for four months. She eats through a feeding tube and needs someone to attend to her permanently. She lives on the first floor and we can no longer take her down because the wheelchair weighs about thirty kilos and she has no trunk strength," she explains.

Adapted house

The family assures that the grandmother's house, located on Muntanya street in sa Pobla and a few meters from their mother's current home, would allow better adaptation to her needs. "It's a ground-floor house. If my mother could get in there, it would completely change her quality of life. Right now she's trapped at home because we can't get her down the stairs," she states.

According to the complainant's account, the person who continues to reside in the home was her grandmother's caregiver while she was still alive. "When my grandmother was alive, he lived there because he took care of her. We made him a rental contract linked to my grandmother's usufruct, and we had agreed that when she died, he would leave the house," she explains. The relative states that, in the last months of the elderly woman's life, it was another person who was actually in charge of her care. "In the last days of my grandmother's life, a woman was taking care of her. He lived there, but he didn't do anything," she assures.

As she explains, the grandmother died in May of this year, and it was then that the family tried to recover the property. "When my grandmother died, through her lawyer, they asked us for thousands of euros for her to leave the house. We couldn't accept that," she states.

The complainant explains that, subsequently, her lawyers sent a burofax stating that the contract had expired with the death of the usufructuary owner and demanding the handover of the property. "Since he didn't do it, we have been forced to initiate legal proceedings that they tell us could take a long time," she laments. As she explains, both the Social Services of the sa Pobla City Council and the Local Police are aware of the family's situation. "Social services know the case and my mother's situation perfectly. The Local Police also know, but they have told us that the only way is through the courts," she states.

Finally, the complainant assures that the man continues to reside in the property without any title that, in her opinion, justifies it. "We believe he is in a precarious situation," she states.
