Legal experts will debate the protection of linguistic rights in Palma.
The conference will feature the participation of renowned specialists in language law from across the country.
PalmOn February 19 and 20, the Balearic Cultural Association, the Faculty of Law of the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB), and the Institute of Balearic Studies are organizing the conference 'The Protection of Linguistic Rights: Current Challenges and Proposals'. The event will take place at the Palma headquarters of the Balearic Islands Bar Association (ICAIB).
The OCB explains in a statement that "among the issues to be discussed, some of great practical importance stand out, such as the effectiveness of international law instruments for the protection of linguistic rights, the linguistic training of public employees, the right to language before the State Administration, digital use in regional languages, and the protection of linguistic rights in the area of public services, such as healthcare and education. The OCB will not only be able to contribute to this discussion by offering reflections and proposals in the corresponding debates.
The organizing entities share the concern that some public policies They can unjustifiably erode the level of protection afforded to minority languages, such as Catalan. Faced with this phenomenon of regression, they consider intellectual contributions necessary to support the linguistic plurality that stems from the Constitution and the Statutes of Autonomy, a fundamental guarantee for the exercise of citizens' linguistic freedom.
