PalmOutrage in Pollença over a massive bottle party in a protected area. The incident took place on Saturday night at the Colomer viewpoint on the Formentor peninsula. The images show a large number of young people in a small space, in a festive mood, drinking and dancing to the rhythm emanating from a large loudspeaker. One of the images also shows theafterparty, with the surroundings littered with plastic cups, cans and glass bottles scattered on the floor.

This area has been subject to access restrictions for years to protect the Tramuntana mountain range. Residents of Pollença have explained to ARA Baleares that the party was organized by young people who spend their summers in the municipality, including some Mallorcans. "This is not the first time they've carried out this activity; it has happened several times in recent summers, without anyone taking responsibility," they reported.

Residents warn that actions like this endanger the environment and belittle the collective efforts to preserve it, while also showing a lack of respect for residents and the natural environment.

The City Council is investigating the incident.

The City Council reported that, in the early hours of Saturday morning, the Civil Guard received a call about a large gathering of people in bottles and requested reinforcements from the Local Police. Upon arrival, they found a group of between 20 and 30 people, most of whom left upon seeing the police officers. The City Council explained that an investigation has been opened and that the incident will be reported to the Ministry of the Environment.

They are also considering establishing traffic controls at the Formentor roundabout, and are reviewing cameras to verify the magnitude of the gathering, because what the police found does not match some of the images distributed on social media. Perhaps many people had already left by the time the police arrived, or perhaps the images are from other years, according to City Council sources.

Alternativa por Pollença recalls that last summer they warned of these gatherings of young people who gather to drink and watch the sunset, although this year is the first case they have heard of.

Access regulations

The DGT (Directorate General of Traffic) and the Consell de Mallorca (Mallorca Council) maintain access restrictions on the Formentor road between June and October due to the large accumulation of vehicles. These measures aim to ensure road safety, mobility, and traffic flow, as well as preserve the environment affected by the increased traffic.

The Colomer or Creueta viewpoint is located on the Formentor peninsula, in the north of Mallorca, and offers views of the coast, the Tramuntana mountain range, the Colomer islet, and Cape Formentor.
