PalmaThe Court of Instruction 4 of Ibiza has agreed to open a trial against the president of the Consell d'Eivissa, Vicent Marí, accused of prevarication, influence peddling, coercion, and psychological harm to an auditor of the island institution, for the case La vida islados.

The Provincial Court of the Balearic Islands will judge, on the one hand, the awarding of the contract –the use of the emergency procedure had already been endorsed by a court– and the alleged pressures –"verbal or gestural interactions", says the interlocutory decree, consulted by Europa Press– that the civil servant may have suffered due to the possible appointment to the vacant position of controller and for other discrepancies.

The private prosecution requests that Marí be sentenced to 12 years of disqualification for the crime of prevarication, two years in prison for influence peddling and a fine of 500,000 euros; two years and six months in prison for psychological injuries, and one year and six months for coercion.

In terms of civil liability, the private prosecution requests that Marí be ordered to compensate the plaintiff with a minimum sum of 80,000 euros.

For its part, the PSIB, which is exercising the popular prosecution, claims for the crime of prevarication the disqualification for a period of 12 years and for influence peddling, one year of prison. The Prosecutor's Office requests provisional dismissal and archiving.

The case stems from the award of the contract for the tourist promotion campaign “La vida islados” – a court already upheld the emergency procedure – and the alleged harassment and coercion of an interventor from the insular institution.
