Pending matters in the Balearic courts rise 9% in 2025

The judicial bodies of the Balearic Islands received 0.2% more cases in 2025 than the previous year, with a total of 200,020 cases registered, while the resolution capacity of the courts grew and the total number of cases resolved (193,755) experienced an interannual increase of 1.8%. However, according to the information provided by the Superior Court of Justice of the Balearic Islands (TSJIB), the cases that remained pending on December 31 (120,884) increased by 8.8%.
The data on the activity of judicial bodies during the past year are included in the report on the situation of judicial bodies, prepared by the Statistics Section and made public today by the General Council of the Judiciary, which shows how the number of new cases decreased in 2024 in all jurisdictional orders except for the Criminal.
In the Civil order, judicial bodies registered 88,635 cases in 2025, which is equivalent to an increase of 0.3% compared to the previous year.
In this jurisdiction, the resolution capacity increased by 7.7% compared to the previous year, with a total of 86,145 cases resolved.
However, 69,398 cases remained pending, 3.6% more than in 2024. With an interannual increase also of 0.3% more than in 2024, the Criminal jurisdiction registered 97,963 new cases.
Those resolved during the past year amounted to 95,793, 1.9% less than the previous year; while those that remained pending, 34,566, experienced a significant increase of 19.9%.
In the Contentious-Administrative jurisdiction, the intake of 3,815 new cases represented a notable decrease of 16.3%.
The resolved cases also decreased considerably (by 18.5%), amounting to 3,873. In this jurisdictional order, 7,031 cases remained pending, 0.3% less than in the previous year.
The intake of 9,607 new cases in the Social jurisdiction represented an increase of 5.1% compared to 2024. The number of cases resolved rose by 0.3% compared to the previous year, reaching the figure of 7,944; while those that remained pending at the end of the year were 9,889, a notable 21.2% more.
The litigation rate in Spain as a whole in 2025 was 153.70 cases per 1,000 inhabitants. The autonomous communities that showed a litigation rate higher than the national average were the Canary Islands (202.06); Madrid (166.46); Asturias (162.42); Balearic Islands (160.04); Catalonia (159.56); Andalusia (158.15); and Murcia (156.33).
