PalmaRequests for help to the Telèfon de l’Esperança (Hope Phone) have increased by 40% during the first half of 2026 in the Balearic Islands compared to the same period last year, according to data collected in the report that the organization will present on Wednesday on the occasion of World Suicide Prevention Day.

The president of the Telèfon de l’Esperança, María Antonia Mateu, and its spokesperson, Lino Salas, will be in charge of presenting the study, which will allow for understanding the evolution of requests for help received by the organization during the first six months of the year. During the event, a suicide prevention campaign will also be presented, coinciding with World Suicide Prevention Day, which is celebrated on September 10th. The increase in requests for help highlights the importance of maintaining and strengthening resources for care for people experiencing emotional crisis situations or who have suicidal thoughts.

Available help resources

In Spain, there are different resources that people who need help in a crisis situation or when facing suicidal thoughts can turn to. The Telèfon de l’Esperança (Hope Telephone) has the number 717 003 717 and, specifically in the Balearic Islands, 971 46 11 12.

The 024, the Ministry of Health's suicide prevention helpline, is also available. In situations of immediate emergency, you can contact 112, which has psychology professionals available to address these types of situations. The Telèfon de l’Esperança reminds us that asking for help when facing emotional suffering or suicidal thoughts is an important step and that there are specialized resources available to address these situations.
