PalmThe citizen platform Son Bonet Pulmó Verd has denounced what it considers an attitude of “despite and disregard” by Aena towards the residents of Marratxí, following plans to increase activity at Son Bonet airport.

In a statement, the platform criticizes that the company maintains an “invasive attitude” both in previous projects, such as the installation of a photovoltaic park on land near urban areas, and in the desire to expand air traffic with larger aircraft.

The residents assure that the current situation is already “unsustainable” due to the acoustic impact of the traffic of small planes and helicopter practices, which —as they denounce— directly affect homes and also an educational center located in front of the runways. “The noise pollution is so high that it would not pass any control, but it has been maintained for years,” they point out, adding that the current activity already hinders the normal development of classes at the school.

Rejection of a possible expansion

The platform considers that the possible arrival of more planes and more capacity responds to the airport manager's "business ambitions". They state, after warning for years that it is a progressive expansion of air activity, according to their view.

Residents assure that the situation has generated a "growing unease" in the municipality and that the pressure on the territory is increasing.

Criticism of institutions

Son Bonet Pulmón Verde also criticizes the lack of response from public representatives and accuses institutions of not having taken a stand so far on the reported plans.

In this regard, the platform states that it will "firmly" oppose both the expansion of airport activity and any project it considers aggressive for the territory, and warns that they will not accept "megaparks, noise, or pollution to do business on the environment".
