Son Bonet Pulmó Verd denounces the "lack of transparency" of the Marratxí City Council regarding the AENA megapark
The environmental platform is demanding all documentation on the photovoltaic project from the City Council and warns that it will take legal action if transparency is not guaranteed.
PalmThe Son Bonet Pulmón Verde (SBPV) platform has announced that it is invoking the Aarhus Convention, a European directive that guarantees the right of citizens to access environmental information, in response to the "lack of transparency" shown by the mayor of Marratxí, Jaume Llompart, regarding the photovoltaic mega-park project.
According to the platform, despite holding a meeting with the mayor on October 27, the information provided by the City Council "has been insufficient and lacking in transparency." Given this situation, SBPV has decided to activate the legal mechanisms provided for in the 1998 Aarhus Convention, incorporated into European and Spanish law through Law 27/2006, which regulates access to information and public participation in environmental matters. "We have the right to request and obtain all information held by any public authority regarding the environment," the platform stated, adding that it believes the City Council is obligated to provide all data related to AENA's planned project in the Son Bonet public open space. Son Bonet Pulmó Verd also warns that if the council "denies information, prevents citizen participation, or makes decisions contrary to environmental regulations," the platform and the affected residents "may resort to the courts."
The initiative comes amid growing public opposition to the Son Bonet photovoltaic mega-park, a project that, according to its detractors, could have a negative impact on the territory and green spaces of the municipality.
