The GEN denounces before the State the expansion of Ibiza airport
The environmental entity claims to stop the DORA III projects and warns that the increase in capacity violates the current Master Plan
IbizaThe GEN-GOB has filed a complaint with the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, the Ministry for Ecological Transition, the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, and the State Air Safety Agency against AENA's plans to expand the capacity of Ibiza airport. The entity considers that the projects planned in the Airport Regulation Document (DORA III) violate the current Master Plan and prioritize economic benefit over the general interest and the protection of the territory.
According to GEN, the airport's Master Plan, approved in 2010, set a traffic of 5.67 million passengers per year, with a maximum of 7 million. In contrast, the airport already exceeds 9 million journeys and AENA plans to increase its capacity to 10 million within the framework of DORA III (2027-2031).
Environmentalists argue that this increase is being promoted without formally modifying the Master Plan and, therefore, they demand the precautionary suspension of the projects planned in DORA III. They also call for a reduction in the number of flights to adjust traffic to the limits established in the current document and to prioritize the needs of the resident population. In the complaint, GEN warns that this increase will exacerbate the pressure on Ibiza's water, health, and road infrastructure, as well as having negative effects on the natural environment and the quality of life of residents.
GEN also attacks the president of the Consell d'Eivissa, Vicent Marí, whom it accuses of aligning himself with AENA's interests instead of defending those of the island. The entity considers this position "unworthy of a public office" and maintains that the island institutions have renounced defending the general interest.
