PalmaThe housing encampment in Palma has called an open assembly this Sunday at 6:30 PM to prepare for the general strike next Wednesday, November 11th. The activists are calling for participation in both the meeting and the day of protest with messages such as "We will stop everything" and "The struggle continues regardless of who governs".
The call is part of the mobilizations that the group has organized during the last weeks "against the housing business". Before this final assembly, meetings have been held in different neighborhoods of Palma to prepare for the day and discuss issues related to rents and access to housing.
The event comes a few days after the eviction of the encampment in Plaça d'Espanya, which had been the focus of part of the housing protests in Palma. The organizers have also announced an internal meeting this Saturday, outside the square, after which they plan to announce news about the next steps of the movement.
Wednesday's mobilization coincides with the 24-hour general strike called by CCOO and UGT throughout the State, under the slogan "Wages. Housing. Prices". The unions are demanding salary improvements, measures to facilitate access to housing, and actions in the face of the rising cost of living.
