PalmaThe lack of forensic psychologists in the Ibiza administration of justice is paralyzing a hundred proceedings related to cases of sexual violence, including some in which the victims are minors, according to judicial sources.
Furthermore, they report that the deficit in the Institute of Legal Medicine makes it impossible to produce the forensic psychological reports necessary to advance the cases, which sometimes have been accumulating in the courts for years.
This lack is due to the difficulties in finding forensic psychologists willing to settle in Ibiza because the salary "is insufficient to face the high cost of living on the island." Sources from the forensic department have explained that a substitute psychologist will join on October 1st, who has been receiving the relevant training during this week.
This professional, who comes from a list of interim staff available for the Management to fill this position, has agreed to join thanks to the new insularity supplement, of about 500 gross euros per month. The tenured forensic psychologist has been on leave since April 2025 in a position that was filled for 11 months by an interim who resigned voluntarily, the same judicial sources added.
During the first quarter of 2026, 349 sexual crimes were registered in Ibiza and Formentera, including assaults, attacks against sexual freedom, as well as against moral integrity, among others, compared to the 287 recorded during the same period in 2025, according to data from the Judiciary. In 2025, gender-based violence crimes amounted to 1,431.
