The Majorcan chef Macarena de Castro wins the Golden Sobrassada award

The Council of Mallorca and the IGP Sobrassada de Mallorca recognize the chef's career and her defense of local produce

PalmaThe Mallorcan chef Macarena de Castro received this Tuesday the Sobrassada d’Or – Excel·lència de Mallorca 2026 award, an honorary prize promoted by the Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) Sobrassada de Mallorca and the Department of Economic Promotion and Local Development of the Consell de Mallorca.

The award ceremony was held at Can Tàpera and was presided over by the president of the Consell de Mallorca, Llorenç Galmés, with the participation of institutional representatives, producers, and entities linked to the island's agri-food sector.

According to the organizers, the award recognizes the chef's career and her connection with local produce and Mallorcan gastronomy. During her speech, Galmés highlighted the chef's "commitment" to proximity ingredients and the promotion of Mallorcan cuisine.

Macarena de Castro (Mallorca, 1981) directs the restaurant Maca de Castro, distinguished with a Michelin star, three Repsol Suns, and a Michelin Green Star linked to sustainability. Trained at the School of Hospitality of the Balearic Islands, she has also worked in renowned kitchens such as El Celler de Can Roca.

The chef is considered one of the main advocates for proximity cuisine and local produce in the Balearic Islands, a gastronomic line that has marked a significant part of her professional career.

The award presented is a piece created by the artist from Felanitx, Jaume Canet, inspired by the "bisbe," one of the traditional varieties of sobrassada from Mallorca. The event concluded with a tasting of local products organized by the Mater Foundation.
