PalmThe five municipalities of Ibiza have agreed to supply themselves 100% with water from desalination plants and reduce the use of well water in municipal networks to the bare minimum. This decision was made at the Council of Mayors held at the headquarters of the Island Council, where the President of the Council, Vicent Marí, explained that more desalinated water is produced during the off-season than the municipalities consume and that replacing well water "will reduce the pressure on aquifers" by around one cubic hectometer.

Thus, the municipalities will maintain only a minimal use of well water when necessary for maintenance and safety reasons. Furthermore, the municipal teams agreed on the need to continue reducing leaks and improving the performance of the networks, in which a total of €24.1 million has been invested in recent years.

At the same meeting, the Minister of Family, Social Welfare and Care for Dependent Minors, Sandra Fernández, reported on the migration situation in the Balearic Islands and advocated for declaring a migration emergency in a broader sense, to "speed up hiring and strengthen care" for unaccompanied minors. Marí also noted that the route between Algeria and the Balearic Islands is the one that has grown the most in recent months and lamented that the Spanish government has shown "no intention of reversing the situation."
