PalmLa Menorquina has discontinued Punky, one of the most historic and famous ice creams in the Balearic Islands, a brand that has marked the childhood of many generations. This is yet another example of the loss of traditional products and elements that the archipelago has been gradually losing in recent years. After Laccao's farewellas a Mallorcan product, to become 100% CatalanNow Punky disappears too.

La Menorquina's vanilla ice cream was remembered, loved, and ordered during the summers more for its appearance than its taste. In fact, almost everyone remembers having eaten it at some point, but many don't recall what flavor it was or what it tasted like. The friendly penguin with a red crest has been a part of Balearic games and homes for decades, but now its farewell has arrived.

As the company explained in a social media post, the reason for its removal from the La Menorquina catalog is purely economic. In fact, the first sentence of the post reads: "The market has spoken." The post states that current generations "are looking for other things," while adults "remember it fondly, but are embarrassed to ask for it in public." They emphasize that "shyness has won out in sales." "Punky is leaving us. Take flight. Thank you for so many summers," they conclude in the statement. The post has received many comments from islanders lamenting the disappearance of an ice cream "that has marked the childhood of many generations." Some point out that "we don't value what we have until we lose it," referring to the drop in sales and the gradual disappearance of that part of the island's culture and tradition.
