Fifty personnel from the Balearic Islands are helping to extinguish the fires in Castile and León.
The team is made up of technicians from the General Directorate of Emergencies and the Interior, firefighters, health workers and Civil Protection volunteers, among others.
PalmA contingent of 47 personnel deployed this morning to Castile and León to assist in extinguishing the fires that have broken out in the region for days. This decision was made at the contingent's technical coordination meeting held this Monday at the headquarters of the General Directorate of Emergencies and the Interior of the Government. The team that departed this morning from Mallorca, Ibiza, and Menorca is made up of technicians from the General Directorate of Emergencies and the Interior, the Mallorca Fire Department, the Menorca Fire Department, the Ibiza Fire Department, the Palma Fire Department, environmental agents, emergency telecommunications technicians and from the Sampol company, SAMU061 teams, and volunteers from Loseta and San Antonio de Portmany Civil Protection.
By island, specifically, 35 personnel departed from Mallorca, seven from Ibiza, and five from Menorca. Regarding the technical aspect, 21 vehicles have been deployed (16 from Mallorca, three from Ibiza, and two from Menorca). The operation also includes a portable telecommunications station from IBDigital to reinforce the Tetra IB emergency communications network; an advanced life support ambulance, and a medical vehicle.
The contingent is coordinated through two command cells. One will be located on the ground in León and will consist of a technician from the General Directorate of Emergencies, a technician from the Emergency Operations Unit, a technician from the General Directorate of the Environment, and a light vehicle. The other will be located at the headquarters of the Emergency Coordination Center to coordinate the entire operation from Palma and will consist of five personnel.
The Director General of Emergencies and the Interior, Pablo Gárriz, has emphasized that an effort of responsibility is being made by all the bodies that are part of the operation, since in no case has any service that would have to act in the event of an emergency in the Balearic Islands been dismantled.
"We are supportive as an autonomous community, but we are also responsible with the risk situation we have with heat waves, risk of forest fires and special plans such as Inunbal and Meteobal activated in the pre-emergency phase; therefore, any movement of resources that is carried out is done so bearing in mind that we are not touching absolutely anything. What we mobilize are those that are not compromised. We have sought that fundamental balance to guarantee our safety," added Pablo Gárriz.
