Unemployment rises slightly in June in the Balearic Islands, but remains 4.1% below a year ago

The employment offices register 23,707 unemployed people, 100 more than in May, while hiring grows by almost 20% compared to June 2025

PalmRegistered unemployment in the Balearic Islands increased by 100 people in June compared to May, an increase of 0.42%, bringing the total number of unemployed people to 23,707. Despite this slight monthly rebound, the Islands maintain a positive trend compared to a year ago, with 1,015 fewer unemployed people, representing a decrease of 4.11%, according to data published this Thursday by the Ministry of Labor and Social Economy.

The services sector continues to concentrate the largest portion of the unemployed, with 16,789 registered people, although in this case the number of unemployed decreased by 135 compared to May. In contrast, construction registered an increase of 97 people, reaching 2,990 unemployed. Agriculture, with 273 unemployed, and industry, with 1,112, registered slight decreases.

Regarding the profile of job seekers, of the 23,707 unemployed people, 13,468 are women and 10,239 are men. Among those under 25 years old, unemployment affects 2,378 people, of whom 1,333 are men and 1,045 are women.

Unemployment among the foreign population stood at 4,995 people, 3.87% more than the previous month and 5.18% more than in June of last year.

In parallel, hiring maintained a positive trend. During June, 54,006 contracts were formalized in the Balearic Islands, 19.79% more than in the same month of 2025. Of these, 39,973 were permanent, with an increase of 20.8%, while the remaining 14,033 were temporary, 16.8% more than a year earlier.

The Ministry's data also indicate that the total number of job seekers in the Balearic Islands stood at 52,312 people during June, of whom 22,131 were registered as employed.
