Half a century later, 'Al Olympia' is heard again: Bonet sings from the present with a renewed voice.
Bellver Castle hosted Maria del Mar Bonet's concert this Tuesday, with the album 'Al Olympia' as the centerpiece.

PalmIn the imposing space of Bellver Castle, Maria del Mar Bonet gave a concert that is much more than a look back: it's a declaration. An affirmation of commitment to music, to words, and to the people. The recital, along with the albumAt the Olympiaas a central axis, it has become a half-century journey that has returned to the present with renewed strength and a voice that, far from repeating itself, is reinterpreted.
DEAt the Olympiapieces such as have been playedI'm leaving home,Doll doll,His zambomba,Start of the campaign,Heart for a good death,April,Say friendandTo hear—just this year marks the 50th anniversary, and a remixed version has been released. But it wasn't a concert confined to nostalgia. Traditional songs also surfaced, which, as he explained, he had to make them tell lies in order to continue performing them again. And recent creations have emerged, such asSongs of Nonsense—inspired by the Menorcan nonsense— andThe bell tree, which have revealed an artist who continues to think and sing with her own perspective.
Between songs, Bonet shared thoughts that ranged from reflection to complicity. She spoke freely and without reverence about the need to dare to cover old pieces, to lose their respect in order to reinterpret them. And also about dreams.Doll doll, he said, was born from a dream. But not an escapist dream, but an inspiring one: a gap of imagination that connects with life to help us transform it. For making reality closer to dreams.
He was accompanied on stage by Toni Pastor (lute), Marko Lohikari (double bass), Benjamin Salom (violin), Marc Grasas (guitar), and José Llorach (percussion). A group that managed to create a very special complicity: without taking away from his prominence, they were the pedestal on which Bonet could display the full weight and breath of the concert.
The concert ended with a sequence of encores full of intention and meaning:What do these people want?, a piece that could not be included in theOlympiafrom 50 years ago, but which is part of the new remixed edition, and a premiere that was received like a gift. An ending that condensed emotion, awareness, and the complicity of the audience that filled Bellver Castle.
