PalmaThe Echo of the Gaze, directed by the Majorcan Carles Bover, has been selected among the 15 pieces vying for the nomination for Best Documentary Short Film at the 41st edition of the Goya Awards, which will be presented on February 6th in Pamplona. It is a piece that returns to images recorded in Gaza and has reached this stage after having toured more than 60 festivals around the world, of which 16, festivals qualifying for the Goyas, have recognized the short film in the official selection and have contributed to placing it among the 15 documentaries vying for the nomination.
More than ten years ago, Carles Bover and Julio Pérez del Campo filmed in Gaza the consequences of the ethnic cleansing and the violence exerted for decades by Israel over the Palestinian people. From that shooting was born Gaza, a short film that received the Goya for best documentary short film in 2019. Now, The Echo of the Gaze presents those same images from a different place.
The short film is a documentary essay on the weight of filming pain, the guilt of those who observe, and the responsibility of those who show.
