These are the new limited menu prices at the UIB bars.

The reduction will be possible thanks to a contribution of 150,000 euros from the Ministry of Education and Universities.

PalmStarting next Monday, October 6, the UIB will implement a maximum price for menus in all campus cafeterias. This measure, jointly promoted by the Regional Minister of Education and Universities, Antoni Vera, and the Rector of the UIB, Jaume Carot, establishes a ceiling of €7.55 for a full meal and €5 for a half meal. Until now, average prices hovered around €9.40 and €6.40, respectively, which were among the highest among Spanish universities.

The reduction will be possible thanks to a €150,000 contribution from the Regional Ministry of Education and Universities, intended to offset the difference between current prices and the new limits. This contribution aims to standardize the cost of menus in all cafeterias, which until now set prices independently in public tenders for the service.

They now cost 7.95 euros, on average

According to sources at the UIB, it is estimated that approximately 75,000 meals will be eligible for this annual reduction, which places their price slightly below the national average, currently €7.95. Furthermore, to access the reduced price, students will have to prove their identity in cafeterias using the UIB virtual university card app. This change is part of student support policies and aims to ensure more affordable access to food on campus. However, it should be noted that the UIB does not directly set prices; rather, each cafeteria establishes its offering through public tenders, which is what has led to the previous cost differences.
