The II Variat Fair is already here: changes and novelties to avoid last year's problems
On September 26 and 27 the Pere Garau market will host the second edition of the fair
PalmaPere Garau square will host the second edition of the Variat Fair on the upcoming 26th and 27th of September, an event that grows this year and incorporates changes to avoid the logistical problems of the first edition. The main novelty will be the possibility of buying tickets in advance through the fair's website, a system that will allow acquiring the consumptions before or during the event and exchanging them at any of the participating stalls.
The measure comes after the first edition, held in 2025, exceeded attendance forecasts and ended with supply problems. The public success meant that several establishments ran out of 'variats' before noon. Some attendees reported that they had queued only to discover later that there were no portions left, while others had to leave without being able to eat.
This year, the organization ensures it wants to streamline the experience for attendees and avoid a repeat of that situation. Tickets are already on sale and can be exchanged during the two days of the fair at any of the participating booths.
More space and thirteen little houses
The fair is also expanding its space this year and will occupy both squares of the Pere Garau market. There will be thirteen stalls serving 'variat' (mixed tapas) from different catering establishments, in addition to food trucks, live music, and family activities. The program will begin on Saturday at 7 PM and will last until midnight. On Sunday, the day will start at 9 AM and end at 11 PM. "With the reception we had the first year, in this second edition we had to grow and improve," explained the market president, Paquita Bonnin. "This year we have thirteen stalls and online ticket sales, which is the big novelty."
Bonnin also claims the role of the dish as an element of popular Majorcan cuisine: "The 'variat' is one of the most quintessential things we have, and this fair was born to put it in the place it deserves."
The Variat Fair was born in 2025 with the intention of becoming a benchmark event in Mallorca's gastronomic calendar and to champion the establishments that keep this tradition alive. The second edition is organized by the Association of Sellers of the Plaça de Pere Garau, with the collaboration of the Palma City Council and the Council of Mallorca.
