PalmBen Amics has conditioned the organization of the LGTBIQ+ Pride festival 2026 on the commitment of the Palma City Council to invite them to display the Pride flag in Cort on June 8 and to restart the Palma Educa workshops next academic year. This was confirmed, in statements to Europa Press, by the entity's spokesperson, Jan Gómez, after the assembly held by Ben Amics this Wednesday and the meeting held with the local corporation.

In this way, he pointed out that these would be the new commitments that the Palma City Council would have to assume, along with having the list of artists, activities, and the poster finalized by June 8 to begin promoting the event.

Gómez highlighted that the proposal for the new date - they had planned to finalize these points on June 1 - came after confirming that "the deadlines are impossible" and that the deputy mayor and equality councilor, Lourdes Roca, apologized to them for what happened.

Likewise, he stressed that this new deadline represents a "situation of lack of protection and mistreatment" for the collective, the technical team, and the volunteers of Ben Amics. Therefore, they have asked that the celebration of the festival "not be just a photo opportunity without substance," but rather that there be a "real commitment" to LGTBIQ+ policies at the municipal level.

Co-organization of the festival

Therefore, they have demanded that the Equality area assume the co-organization of the festival and that the contracts for the Palma Educa workshops be resolved by September 15 to "begin the 2026-2027 academic year normally".

At Ben Amics, they have remarked that the sexual and gender diversity workshops have not been taught for a year because "the contracts are not issued", meaning that the city's schools "cannot access this human rights training for their students". Likewise, they have requested a verbal commitment from the mayor of Palma, Jaime Martínez, who on June 8 will fly the LGTBIQ+ Pride flag alongside Ben Amics, after "having expelled them three years ago".

If the City Council accepts all these points, Gómez has confirmed that they would assume the "overload" and "technical and human effort" involved in organizing this 'festival' with so little notice. Ben Amics has given Cort until Friday to respond to their counter-proposal.
