PalmThe President of the Government of Mallorca, Marga Prohens, has accused MÁS per Mallorca of trying to "deceive" the public with its proposed law to restrict home purchases by non-residents. In statements reported by Europa Press, she confirmed that the People's Party (PP) will vote against the initiative, which is being debated this Tuesday in the Balearic Parliament. "After eight years without ideas and without policies, it's like a miracle that they go into opposition and suddenly come up with magical solutions for the housing emergency," she criticized. Despite being "more or less in agreement" with the measure, the President considered the eco-sovereignists' solution to the housing emergency "unrealistic" because it clashes with European legislation.

The leader of MÁS per Mallorca, Lluís Apesteguia, however, defended the proposal. The text is a first step, since if approved it would have to be sent to the Congress of Deputies. In any case, he argued that the debate will serve to "unmask everyone," and demanded that the PP and Vox, who "have been saying 'locals first' for two years," vote in favor. "Let them say what their homeland is," he declared. "Throughout this entire legislature we've been hearing that they work for the local people and build housing for the local people," he continued: "Who are they referring to?" Along the same lines, he asked if "they're only referring to wealthy people and investment and speculative funds." "That's their homeland and their compatriots are those in Andorra or Switzerland," he continued, instead of "ordinary people, working people" who have trouble accessing housing. Despite the skepticism expressed by the PP, Vox, and PSIB, Apesteguia has argued that his proposal is rigorous and complies with both state and European regulations.

Vox accuses MÁS of "demagoguery"

Vox spokesperson Manuela Cañadas did not clarify how they will vote tomorrow. However, she accused MÁS of "always" making "populist and demagogic" legislative proposals that "clash with state and European regulations." Although her party has made proposals that directly contradict state and international law, such as the deportation of millions of immigrants, Cañadas now said they want to rigorously analyze, with various legal experts, whether this text is viable before issuing an opinion.

However, PSIB spokesperson Iago Negueruela said he would support the eco-sovereignists' proposal. "This legislative session, both they and we have presented several initiatives that move in that direction, and therefore we will support them as usual," he stated.
