Emergency services handle 677 calls on Christmas Eve across all the islands
The 112 emergency service handled 69 incidents between Christmas Eve and the morning of the 25th, most of them in Mallorca and related to medical emergencies and conflicts.
PalmThe 112 Emergency Coordination Center handled a total of 677 phone calls between 8:00 p.m. on December 24th and 8:00 a.m. on Christmas Day, resulting in 69 incidents, none of which were classified as serious. According to a statement from the Ministry of the Presidency and Institutional Coordination, 57 incidents were recorded in Mallorca, 41 of which were in Palma. Seven incidents were reported in Ibiza, while four occurred in Menorca. Regarding the types of incidents, the most common were medical emergencies in establishments or on public streets, with 16 cases, followed by 13 fights and 12 physical assaults. Nine vehicle accidents, five threats, five cases of illegal entry into homes, three robberies, two incidents of reckless driving, two neighborhood disputes, as well as one accidental fall and one act of vandalism were also recorded.
The General Directorate of Emergencies has appealed for common sense during these holidays and reiterated several safety recommendations. These include taking extra precautions with heaters and braziers inside homes, ventilating frequently, and not leaving them on overnight or when no one is home.
The importance of preventing choking, especially in children and the elderly, has also been emphasized by avoiding high-risk foods such as whole nuts, olives, or hard candies, and eating while seated and calmly. In the case of grapes, it is recommended to peel and cut them. Regarding alcohol consumption, Emergency Services reminds everyone that if you drink, you should not drive, and advises planning your transportation in advance or opting for public transport. Finally, they urge caution with toys, firecrackers, and fireworks, using only authorized products and always following safety regulations.
