144 people evacuated from a residence in Inca due to a fire
The fire, presumably originated by a short circuit in the electrical panel, has not caused injuries, although several people have been treated for mild smoke inhalation
IncaA fire in a residence in Inca on Wednesday forced the evacuation of 144 people, including residents and staff. The fire, which has now been extinguished, caused no injuries, although several people were treated at the scene for minor smoke inhalation.
The Mallorca Fire Department received the alert at 9:45 a.m. for a fire on the ground floor of the center. Firefighters from the Inca, Alcudia, and Manacor stations, along with local police, the Guardia Civil, and health services, were dispatched to the scene.
According to Enric Campins, a technician for the Mallorca Fire Department, the building became "filled with smoke." The fire was declared extinguished around midday and, according to initial reports, is believed to have originated from a short circuit in the residence's electrical panel.
In total, 117 residents and 27 staff members were evacuated. Emergency services treated several people for minor smoke inhalation, but no one required transfer to a hospital.
One of the main problems resulting from the fire is that the electrical installation has been affected, leaving the residence without power. Campins also noted that the nursing home still smells of smoke and that some rooms have been "quite darkened."
The mayor of Inca, Virgilio Moreno, highlighted that there were no injuries, although there were "moments of tension." He also assured that the City Council is working with the other agencies to restore normalcy. The President of the Government, Marga Prohens, stated that she has been monitoring the fire's evolution since early this morning and thanked the emergency services for their rapid intervention.
