Vox Crisis

Idoia Ribas moves to the non-affiliated group: "Vox is a project doomed to failure."

The MP confirms that she is leaving the far-right parliamentary group and harshly criticizes her former party.

PalmIdoia Ribas, Vox's deputy in the Parliament until Tuesday, confirmed this Thursday that she will move to the group of unaffiliated deputies. In a letter addressed to the Chamber's Bureau early Thursday morning, Ribas formally requested her departure from the Vox parliamentary group to become an unaffiliated deputy. "My departure from the group confirms the collapse of a project that, since the beginning of the legislature, has been doomed to failure by the continuous interference of the national leadership, which has intentionally sought this outcome," she stated. With her departure, which adds Xisco Cardona and Agustí Buades, Vox is left with five deputies in the Parliament.

Ribas recalled that, throughout the current legislative period, Vox has lost representation in various regional parliaments, provincial councils, island councils, and city councils across the country, in a "self-destructive" drift that he attributed "exclusively" to the sole command of the national leadership. This leadership, in his opinion, far from wanting to advance its political agenda, seeks confrontation with its elected representatives and among themselves, with the "unfair intention" of reducing the party's presence in public institutions.

Ribas demanded that the leadership of his former party explain the reason for this strategy, since, contrary to its founding principles, "the subsistence of this party continues to depend on the public contributions it receives, and it is, therefore, an entity funded by all taxpayers."

"Harmful management of the Vox project"

"We deserve an explanation for the harmful economic, political, and human management of the project, and for the absence of constructive objectives beyond the very maintenance of the party, to provide shelter for those who lead it and to nourish private entities related to it," she stated.

For the former Vox MP, the "irrational contempt" for autonomous regions and municipalism on the part of those who make the decisions makes it unviable for the project to be useful in managing powers. She indicated that proof of this is the unjustified withdrawal of regional governments or the refusal to participate, as in the case of the Balearic Islands.

In her letter, Ribas appealed to the exercise of her political rights and commitment to the voters, and asserted the obligation to carry out her duties without submitting to the pressures "of those, within the party system, who seek to perpetuate themselves in power for their own benefit, at the expense of their own benefit."

The former Vox member has claimed her presence in Parliament as "crucial" to the progress achieved during her time as spokesperson, "although having to confront the party leadership to make it possible, at the political and personal cost that this has entailed." "We are fully aware that the sole purpose of politics must always be to serve citizens and try to improve their lives, and not to serve party leaders," she concluded, "and that is what I will continue to do from now on in my new position as an unaffiliated deputy."
