Prohens asks Sánchez for explanations for a report on arrivals to the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands

PalmaThe President of the Government, Marga Prohens, has demanded explanations from Pedro Sánchez for having said, during his appearance at the Congress of Deputies, that he received reports from the National Police regarding a risk of migrant arrivals on the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands.

The Spanish president has detailed the information known over the last few days regarding possible prior warnings of the crisis. As he explained, the European agency produced a "routine" report on the detentions recorded at the border of Morocco and Ceuta, but "it did not foresee anything even remotely similar to what happened." He also denied that the National Police warned a week earlier of a "high risk" of arrivals in Ceuta. He confirmed that this report existed, but it referred "exclusively" to maritime arrivals on the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands, and not to the Ceuta border.

After learning about these statements, Prohens posted a tweet on X: "Did the government of Spain have reports from the National Police that warned of massive arrivals of irregular immigrants on the coast of the Balearic Islands and did not inform the Government about it?". Thus, she demanded "immediate explanations" regarding this matter. She also demanded "urgent measures to reinforce the State's security forces and bodies" and that the activation of Frontex be requested "for the protection, control, and defense of maritime borders in the face of this high-risk alert".
