The Government will bring the Agrarian Law and the Coastal Law to Parliament despite Vox's doubts
The vice president warns that the initiatives are "agreed" with the far-right
PalmaThe Government will approve the Agrarian law and the one on Coasts and Coastline with or without Vox's support. The first vice-president, Antoni Costa, has defended that the two legislative initiatives are "very agreed and negotiated with Vox", and has left their final approval in Parliament in the hands of the parliamentary groups.
As ARA Balears reported, Vox was furious with the PP's decision to go ahead with the vehicle limitation on the Consell de Mallorca with the support of the left. For this reason, it was planned to block these two laws as retaliation. However, in Friday's plenary session of the island institution, the far-right opted for abstention, contrary to what had been announced. The vice-president of the Consell, Pedro Bestard (Vox), is awaiting an investigation opened by the institution for alleged misuse of official cars. Furthermore, PP sources believed that the far-right would have difficulty explaining a vote against this regulation to voters, in the context of the daily traffic jams on the islands.
Asked about these issues, Costa defended that the Government makes decisions "based on what is most beneficial for the citizens". "We will not stop approving the agrarian and Coastal laws", he insisted. The most notable regulation is the Agrarian one, on which counselor Joan Simonet has worked throughout the legislature. The agricultural and livestock sector is one of Vox's main strongholds in the State as a whole. However, the party has found more difficulties in penetrating this sector in the Islands. Vox has support in the sector. In fact, the party's island counselor, Toni Gili, is a primary sector businessman, who in 2025 was involved in a controversy when a company to which he was linked was accused of labor exploitation. Nevertheless, the PP currently has more influence in this sector, as counselor Simonet has strong ties with the main agrarian association in the territory, Asaja. "That Vox votes against it, and we will explain it to the sector", expressed popular sources in a warning to the far-right.
