The government summons the opposition to address the effects of the war in Iran
The government is preparing a package of measures after listening to the affected sectors.
PalmAfter maintaining meetings with the sectors affected by the price increase As a consequence of the war in Iran, the government is now calling on the opposition. The First Vice President and Minister of Economy, Finance, and Innovation, Antoni Costa, explained that he will meet this Wednesday with the parties represented in Parliament to hear their proposals for mitigating the economic effects of the war and, if possible, incorporate them into the government's plans.
During Tuesday's parliamentary session, Costa explained that he is finalizing a set of initiatives to address the consequences of the conflict, in line with the demands of various economic sectors. Among the hardest hit are transport workers and construction companies, but the price of gasoline is also rising for everyone, as is the cost of groceries. Meanwhile, both the PSIB (Socialist Party of the Balearic Islands) and MÁS per Mallorca (More for Mallorca) criticized the President of the Balearic Government, Marga Prohens, for maintaining her official trip "to the Caribbean" while prices continue to rise. "While the State is taking action, you are busy with meetings and headlines," criticized the Socialist Ares Fernández, who called for measures regarding housing. The Minister of Housing, José Luis Mateo, assured that he is "very aware" of the price increases and is preparing measures, although he did not specify what they would be. He stated his intention to begin construction this year on most of the 1,200 public housing units planned for the Balearic Islands. However, he criticized the Spanish government's royal decree to freeze rents and limit price increases in contracts, saying it "legislates against small landlords."
Criticism of Prohens' trip
The Minister of Business, Self-Employment, and Energy, Alejandro Sáenz de San Pedro, merely stated that the Government "is listening to the various sectors and preparing a thorough response." Meanwhile, PSOE deputy Pilar Costa criticized the lack of measures and decisions regarding the regional government while Prohens is absent from her trip.
"Prohens is on a trip that she has extended to an almost unjustifiable degree, and the Speaker of Parliament is at a 'fascist meeting' in Hungary," lamented Lluís Apesteguia, spokesperson for MÉS per Mallorca. "They are very far removed from the people, thousands of kilometers away." He was referring to Le Senne's absence from the plenary session to attend a meeting of the far-right European Parliament group, Patriots, in Hungary.
