The storms leave 73.6 liters in Escorca and 59 in Binissalem in a dawn of intense rains

PalmaThe storms that affected the Balearic Islands early this morning have left significant rainfall records, especially in Mallorca. The maximum was reached at the Son Torrella station, in Escorca, with 73.6 liters per square meter, while 59 l/m² accumulated in Binissalem.

Data from the Balearic territorial center of the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) indicate that, in the case of Binissalem, a good part of the precipitation was especially intense and concentrated in a short time: 51.8 l/m² fell in just one hour.

The record at Son Torrella, in the Serra de Tramuntana, is the highest of the episode so far. In Lluc, 54.6 l/m² were collected, while 34.2 l/m² were recorded in Llucmajor.

In the rest of Mallorca, Aemet data also show notable accumulations. At the sa Canova station, in sa Pobla, 23.6 l/m² were recorded; at Son Sant Joan airport, 22.9 l/m², and at the Llucmajor radar, 21.8 l/m².

The rain continues early in the morning

The episode is not over yet. Early this Thursday, it continues to rain in different parts of Mallorca, which is why Aemet asks for caution due to the persistence of the rainfall and storms.

The Balearic Islands remain under the influence of an unstable meteorological situation, with the possibility of new showers and storms throughout the day.

The most intense rainfall of the early morning has been concentrated especially in Mallorca, with more than 70 liters per square meter in Escorca and nearly 60 in Binissalem, two of the most notable records of the episode.

The intensity recorded in Binissalem is especially significant: more than 50 liters have fallen in a single hour, a figure that explains the high intensity with which the storm has affected this area of the Raiguer.

A second episode of storms this Thursday

Emergency services had warned on Wednesday that the Balearic Islands would face two rounds of storms this Thursday. The first front was expected to arrive at dawn, while a second episode is forecast from midday in Ibiza and Formentera and during the afternoon in Mallorca. The orange alert of the Meteobal Plan for rain and storms remains in effect for all the Islands, and Emergency services request extreme caution due to the possibility of localized flooding, water accumulation, and incidents on roads, torrents, and runoff areas.

The Technical Advisory Committee of the Meteobal Plan has scheduled a new meeting for this Thursday morning to update the situation.
