BalearicsChristmas Day is marked by unstable weather in the Balearic Islands. The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has issued a yellow alert for rain in the Pitiusas Islands this Thursday, with accumulated rainfall that could reach 60 liters per square meter in 12 hours. Warnings for rough seas have also been issued for Menorca and the north and northeast of Mallorca. In these northern areas of the archipelago, the coastal warning is due to northerly winds with gusts of between 50 and 60 kilometers per hour (force 7) and waves that could reach three meters, with a northerly swell. In Ibiza and Formentera, the rain alert was activated in the early hours and will remain in effect throughout the day, with rainfall that could be locally heavy. The Balearic Islands are among the six autonomous communities under weather warnings this Christmas Day, along with Asturias, Cantabria, Castile and León, Catalonia, and the Valencian Community, due to various phenomena such as rain, snow, low temperatures, and rough seas. The most significant warning at the national level is an orange alert for the Girona coast, where strong gusts of wind and waves of up to five meters are expected. In Catalonia, there are also yellow alerts for rain in several areas, some of which may be accompanied by thunderstorms. Aemet (the Spanish State Meteorological Agency) recommends taking extreme precautions, especially in coastal areas affected by rough seas and when traveling during this holiday.
