The sea swallows stupidity

The images of Nicolas Cage's house in Malibu are frightening. The authorities admit that the waves and tides associated with Hurricane Marie, which struck the coast of Southern California, are the direct cause of the destruction of this and other houses, which like so many others are built on the front line, powerful and haughty to offer their owner the exclusivity of a view that the poor cannot have.

This is what luxury and, often, human stupidity are based on. Wanting to be above others. In this case, nature has said that it is above everything, and it has eaten part of the building.

For decades, scientists have been warning about the effects of rising sea levels. And they add that it is necessary to avoid the increase in emissions and, of course, to start taking measures to avoid harm to people and things. And what does humanity do in general? Well, ignore it completely.

And in the case of the Balearic Islands? Well, two things. Looking the other way by the State for decades of abuses on public domain land. The complicit softness and inaction have nothing to do with the exemplary spirit of the Coastal Law. And the second thing, processing a coastal law that aspires to save illegal constructions built on public domain land. With an argument of balancing, to say the least, about the heritage value of these buildings, which in general have none at all.

In the Valencian Community, the courts have already struck down this deceptive idea that the Prohens Government has now copied for the Balearic Islands. What I have never known is whether they are making the law to make it look like to those they promised to fix it for that they have tried, or if they really think that the invasion of state powers has any chance of prospering.
