PalmThe Secretary General of the PSIB (Socialist Party of the Balearic Islands) and President of the Congress of Deputies, Francina Armengol, asserted this Monday in Palma that the policies of the President of the Balearic Government, Marga Prohens, are now "indistinguishable" from those of Vox, and therefore predicted a change of government by 2027: "Many people are afraid." Speaking during the PSIB's Christmas reception, she stated that "since Prohens has completely embraced Vox's principles," people "are eager for a progressive government." As she emphasized, the 2023 general elections made it clear that "the far right frightens" voters. Although the PSIB has not conducted internal polls, she affirmed that she has a "nature of knowing" that "people are not happy with the Government" and "are eager for political change in the Islands." However, she declined to confirm whether she will be the PSIB candidate in the upcoming regional elections. "We are prepared to give our best and convince the public that we are not just a possible alternative, but a necessary one," she said, insisting that primary elections will be held during 2026. "There is a very complex situation internationally; democracies and their values are in danger," she said. "At this moment, no one should take a step back, but rather take a courageous step forward to fight in every election and provide progressive governments for the people." In this regard, she considered this term of the PP, with the external support of Vox, to have been a "regression." "They eliminate social policies and public services to tax the wealthiest," she insisted. "It's dressed up as freedom, but the freedom of the wolf is the prison of the sheep." Thus, she called for a "new phase of hope, light, enthusiasm, and progress" in the Balearic Islands.

For her part, the leader of the Socialist Federation of Mallorca (FSM), Amanda Fernández, contrasted the situation of the town halls governed by the PP and Vox with those led by the PSIB. The former, she said, "are deteriorating day by day." "People are waiting for us; we will be the real alternative to all the institutions in 2027," she concluded.
