Cort accuses the GOB of wanting to "manipulate" with the data of the Palma water plan

PalmaThe Palma City Council has defended the Sustainable Water Management Plan in the face of criticism from the GOB, which has questioned the forecasts for future water availability and has claimed that with the water consumption data used in the document, it will not be possible to supply the 10,000 homes that Cort has planned to build. In contrast, the councillor and deputy spokesperson for Cort, Llorenç Bauzá, stated this Wednesday that the plan is designed to ensure that the city has enough water in the face of the projected population growth and has censured the environmental organization's desire to "manipulate" the information throughout the plan.

"I am sorry that the GOB is making these interpretations," stated Bauzá during the press conference following the board of spokespersons. The councillor remarked that the allegations presented regarding the document have yet to be resolved. Bauzá also defended the work of the technicians who developed the plan. "I can assure you that the people who have been in charge of drafting this plan respond with high quality in the documents they submit," he pointed out, in reference to the calculations which, according to Cort, must ensure Palma's water sufficiency.

One of the points questioned by GOB is the water consumption forecast incorporated into the plan. The environmental organization criticizes that the document calculates a consumption of 180 liters per inhabitant per day in 2040, when in 2024 this figure stood, according to its data, between 226 and 257 liters.

Bauzá has defended that the forecasts incorporated into the plan are those necessary to guarantee the city's supply. "These calculations that have been made are to be able to guarantee at all times the water sufficiency of our city and the population growth that Palma may have," he explained. "The calculations are what they are, which are the correct ones, for this linear growth in our city," he added.

Bauzá responds to UGT regarding Son Reus: "We can go to court together"

On the other hand, Bauzá has also responded to UGT's complaints regarding the situation at the Son Reus municipal animal shelter. The deputy spokesperson for Cort has assured that he makes himself "available" to the union to accompany its representatives "to the courts or to Seprona" and has defended the work of the center's employees and volunteers.

Bauzá has claimed that "Son Reus is better than before" and has highlighted the investments made in the facilities and equipment, such as that for the operating room. He also pointed out that the shelter has been subject to inspections by the Ministry and Seprona and that, according to him, no sanctions have been imposed. The statements come after UGT reported alleged irregularities at the center, including the storage of carcasses in a broken freezer and the water supply, which the union claims is contaminated with legionella.

Regarding Son Reus, Bauzá commented that the board has approved the contracting file for the project to build the new animal protection center buildings. The budget is two million euros and the execution period is 10-11 months.

Work on Plaça Major begins in the first quarter of 2027

At the press conference, Bauzá also announced that the improvement and rehabilitation works of the Plaça Major in Palma will begin during the first quarter of next year. The councilor recalled that the project will have a duration of 46 months from the drafting to the execution of the works, and with a budget exceeding 1.4 million euros.
