PalmaMarga Prohens recovered at the presentation of her candidacy to lead the PP a slogan from the 2023 electoral campaign: “We are the party of the local people”. How has this translated into the Government's management?

In her investiture speech, three years ago, Prohens emphasized a fact: “More than 200,000 people, according to the European Anti Poverty Network (EAPN), are below the poverty line.” Three years later, there are nearly 190,000. The director of the NGO's department in the Balearic Islands, Andreu Grimalt, differentiates two stages of the Popular Party leader's mandate: “In the first, pacts for inclusion were reissued; but in the second, the Government has shifted towards far-right positions”.

The Secretary General of Comisiones Obreras (CCOO), José Luis García, gives a “negative” assessment of the Government regarding workers. “The only measure we have agreed upon has been an employment plan,” he states. For his part, the president of the Federation of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises of Mallorca (PIMEM), Jordi Mora, points to the “elevated tax pressure on the self-employed and businesses”. The tax reductions carried out by the Government, he explains, mainly affect individuals.

The executive vice-president of the Hotel Federation of Mallorca (FEHM), María José Aguiló, expresses satisfaction with the results of the Pact for Sustainability: “There is now a roadmap to face the transformation of the territory”. The entity called for a firm hand with tourist rentals, but despite some attempts, the results have been meager. In the same vein, José Miguel Artieda, president of the College of Real Estate Agents, applauds the laws to build housing in collaboration with the private sector, as well as the streamlining of procedures and licenses. “The assessment is positive, but construction is slow and we need to see the results,” he states.

On the other hand, Margalida Ramis, spokesperson for the GOB, denounces the PP's “clear pattern of land liberalization”. She particularly criticizes “reclassifications of rustic land for housing, constructions on plots intended for facilities and services, developments without justification of water resource sufficiency, and the legalization of mansions and chalets”.

The president of the Obra Cultural Balear (OCB), Antoni Llabrés, criticizes in three ways. On the one hand, for “the adoption of regressive measures against Catalan”; on the other, for the “lack of ambitious policies to promote the use of the language” and, finally, for “the irresponsible passivity in the face of the discourse of hatred” against Catalan by Vox, he assures.
