Another record-breaking year for EMT
The number of passengers has grown by 51.7% compared to 2019 to 65.5 million
Palma's EMT (Municipal Transport Company) closed 2025 with 65.5 million journeys, the highest figure recorded to date, in a context of sustained demand growth and service expansion. Urban transport has grown by 51.7% compared to 2019 and by more than 80% since 2022, according to the municipal company's annual report. If the integration within the Mallorca Transport Consortium (CTM) is taken into account, the public transport system as a whole has exceeded 105 million journeys for the first time, almost all of which were made by EMT. More resident users and lines with higher demand
In 2025, 89.6% of users were residents, totaling 58.7 million passengers, and their use of the city bus increased by 82.8% since 2022, representing 45.7 million journeys. Between 2024 and 2025, the largest increases were recorded on lines 4 and 25, followed by lines 5, 8, and 33.
More supply and more operational fleet
Between 2019 and 2025, the number of available seats has increased from 109.1 million to 132.1 million (+21%), while the number of occupied seats has grown from 43.2 million to 65.5 million (+51.7%). The operational fleet has increased from 161 vehicles in 2019 to 193 in 2025, an increase of almost 20%. The service is projected to cover 12.2 million kilometers in 2025, with an average of approximately 55,000 kilometers per bus per year. Operating hours have also increased to 751,244 in 2025, an 18.4% increase compared to 2022.
More staff and network expansion
Between June 2023 and December 2025, the workforce increased from 805 to 923 employees. During this period, 226 people were hired, primarily drivers. The network was expanded with the new L30 line and extensions to lines 4, 20, and 34. On-demand transport services were also consolidated in Son Gual and Puntiró, with 8,540 trips. During 2025, the Single Card (78,045 tickets issued) and bank card payments on buses were implemented.
Valuation and economic impact
According to a survey of over 600 regular users, the service received an average rating of 7.6 out of 10. In 2025, quality certifications such as UNE 13816, ISO 9001, and the Service Charter were also renewed. The operating deficit reached €54.8 million, in a context where ordinary revenue decreased from €33 million in 2019 to €24 million in 2025, while operating expenses increased to €78.9 million. The 2026 budget allocated €26 million to maintain free public transport in Palma.
